"On the Road" Anecdotes Requested

Update 9/4/08: The deadline from the publisher has been extended through November, so keep sending in your anecdotes!

We are asking for help with the Maryland Bands' centennial history book being published during the 2008-2009 academic year. The package will include 216 pages of centennial history, a 40-page Maryland Band Song Book, and a CD of school songs. We are currently developing the photo layout and narrative for the Wakefield/Sparks years, and the centennial celebration itself that will make up the last three chapters of the centennial history. This work is to be completed and to the publisher by Early Week — the last week this August (see update above).

We are asking for everyone to remember and comment on the many bowl games, away trips, international bands, and traveling bands the Terps has participated in since 1947 for a section of the centennial book called On The Road with the Maryland Band. A number of individuals have already contributed terrific anecdotes about these trips, but the fact is that we have nothing about more than half of all the bowl games (listed below).

But what we need urgently are anecdotes about your time in the Maryland Band and the away trips you were a part of. Please respond directly to me by e-mail at taylorrwt@verizon.net.

If you would like to contribute to the permanent Maryland Band Collection of the University Archive, please see our detailed post.

Comments

FYI - The band did not the 1984 Sun Bowl nor did they attend the 1982 Aloha Bowl.

Phil - Did you really graduate from Maryland? Or is that CHAOS speak?
