Maryland Community Band Welcomes Guest Trumpeters Brandon Almagro, Chris Gekker, and Dr. Emerson Head

Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center, Dekelbaum Concert Hall
On Wednesday evening, April 6, the Maryland Community Band will present a special trio of trumpet performers with a unique tie to the UM School of Music. Faculty member and trumpet professor, Chris Gekker, will be joined by his teacher, Prof. Emeritus Dr. Emerson Head, and his former student, Musician 1st Class, Brandon Almagro, of the United States Navy Band, in Agostini’s “The Three Trumpeters.” The performance is part of a concert presented each semester by two special outreach groups formed by the UM Band program; the all-campus University Band, Eli Osterloh, conductor, and the Maryland Community Band under the baton of John E. Wakefield, Director of Bands Emeritus. Wakefield proposed the soloists to recognize the great legacy of fine trumpet teaching and performance over many years at the University of Maryland.

History Book Shipping in August
Posted July 16th, 2009, 7:25 pm by Marianne Kassabian
The Band Centennial History Book will be shipping out in August. There were some tweaks that had to be made, causing us to miss the two-week summer break from the presses. During that break the presses were cleaned and we will be one of the first to roll as soon as the plant starts up again next week.
We are very proud of the book. It is beautiful, full of photographs, and the song book will be something everyone should have. After all, the last one was printed in 1941!
If anyone missed ordering the book, or song-book, the only book store to carry them will be the Maryland Book Exchange on Route 1, just across the street from our Chapel Field.
Thank you,
L. Richmond Sparks
