Calling All Drum Majors & Alums for Kaleidoscope Concert

Homecoming may be over, but the Centennial Celebration is not!

You have one more chance to be part of the Centennial Alumni Marching Band. Join the rank and file at the Kaleidoscope Concert on December 12, 2008 in the Dekelboum Concert Hall in CSPAC.

The Kaleidoscope Concert will start at 8:00 PM. Several groups will be performing, and the Marching Band/Alumni Marching Band will be on last.

Rehearsal is Thursday, December 11th, from 8:00-9:30 PM at CSPAC.  We advise everyone to attend, as we will practice the halftime music, and choreograph our marching entrance into the Recital Hall (depending on our size, we may be in the Choir Loft). Online RSVP has started, and there is no fee for alumni to participate and attend. Percussion and Tubas will be provided, along with a limited supply of mellos and baritones. Please sign up as soon as possible — we need to make sure we have the right quantity of instruments, and need to determine our staging. Concert dress is the Centennial Band t-shirt, dark pants (black preferred), and dark shoes (black preferred). So remember to wear your Centennial t-shirt to the concert!

The Washington Post is sending a photographer in anticipation of our famous Alumni Band, so we need as many alumni as possible to participate in this second Centennial Band Event!

If your family and friends want to attend, tickets to Kaleidoscope are $25.00 each. Students with an ID pay $7.00. Order their tickets now.

Can’t play in this one? Save the date for the next one! On May 2, 2009, The Pops Concert will feature an Alumni Concert Band.

Hi Marianne,
I am a U of M alumni and play the B-flat clarinet. I would like to attend the rehersal on December 11 and the Kaleidoscope Concert on December 12. Questions: Where (bldg. & room) will the rehersal be on 12.11? Will you need the $5 registration fee prior to 12.11? How do I obtain the Centennial Band T-shirt? Please respond to me at my e-mail address:

Thank you,
Howard B. Rubin

Howard, the online registration form has just been posted online where you can pay for the concert and order a t-shirt. We'll post details on the rehearsal & reception room and times to this page soon.

Hey Marianne,
Will it be a little less damp in the Concert Hall???? I am still drying out from Homecoming.

Man, I hope so! Will we see you? mk = )

Come on out to CSPAC tonight! Call the babysitter, set the tivo, grab your instrument and go, whatever it takes. Unless you plan on being around for the Maryland Band Bicentennial, this is a once in a lifetime experience! You get to hang out with your band buddies, make new friends, play music that you learned ( practiced? printed out and carried around?) for Homecoming in the beautiful Dekelboum Concert Hall AND stay relatively dry. The Washington Post will be there to memorialize us as well. Oh, and one more thing... Hey, Maryland Band, are you a turtle?
