Help the Mighty Sound of Maryland get the Best Band Van in the Land

The band has just launched a new crowdfunding event to raise funds for a new Band Van, which they desperately need.

Director Rich Sparks is excited about the effort.  "Campus has invited us to raise funds on this campus-sponsored fundraising event online.  We have spent a great deal of time talking about this with the new Leadership of the Marching Band, and we are confident that this program can work for us.  As a result of our working with the campus Development Office on this project, we have their full attention for the first time in my 30 years here on campus."

The program launched on April 18th, and will close on May 18th.  Donors should donate in the specific name of a current band member.  If you don't know a current band member, please donate in the name of L. Richmond Sparks.  For more information about the program, or to donate, please go to:

Alumni Band - we will not be allowed to bring in the strollers through the tunnel this year, but we'd like to keep the Baby portion at the back of the band.  We are working on it.  If you have an idea for the little ones, please email us at

TerpsChoice - Help the Band Get New Uniforms

Help the Mighty Sound of Maryland get new band uniforms by participating in TerpsChoice, the university's new social giving effort that seeks to make a big impact through small contributions.

Go to to make your gift in any amount from $10 to $250.  You can vote/donate as many times as you'd like between Feb. 1 and April 30, but only once per day.  All of the money donated by the end of the campaign will go to the cause that receives the most votes.

The minimum donation amount per vote is $10.  If you'd like to donate more than $10, we recommend you make the minimum donation once per day, so you can cast several votes over several days.

If you're a Tweeter or Facebooker, please help spread the word to family and friends to get us over the top.

Remember - your vote won't count unless you make a donation at the same time.  There isn't much time left, so make your TerpsChoice today.

Welcome Letter to All Alums From Dr. Sparks

Welcome to all Maryland Band Alumni!

Homecoming is upon us and The Big Event will take place on Friday night, October 24th as we will be hosting all participants of the Maryland Band Program at a reception in the John E. Wakefield Band Rehearsal Hall. We are expecting band alumni dating back into the 1940’s. We expect all baton twirlers, flag twirlers, color guard members and we are especially proud that we have located our founding Pom Pom members and will have many of them back for this once in a lifetime Celebration. If you ever played a horn, beat a drum, danced, twirled, directed, or even just carried water and apples to the band members of this University — We want you here! This evening is for you!
